Home | Local | Nevada City Extends Medical Marijuana Dispensary Moratorium

The Nevada City City Council extended a moratorium on the establishment of medical marijuana dispensaries by 46 days at a meeting Tuesday evening.  Council members declined to renew the emergency ordinance by another ten months and 15 days.  City Manager Gene Albaugh says the council held a sparsely attended meeting for about an hour.

“The Council extended to urgency ordinance for 46 days. They’re directing staff to get information back to them, or sufficient information back to them so they can make a decision on what to do with it and that passed on a four to one vote.”

Mayor Barbara Coffman was the loan dissenting vote, complaining that it should not be an emergency ordinance.  Council criticized city staff for not providing enough information on a possible ordinance, while Albaugh said city staff needed more research time to prepare adequate information to the council.
