Home | Local | Trial Date Set for Accused Embezzler Thomas Hastert

A date has been set for the Thomas Hastert Trial on charges of real estate fraud and embezzlement in connection with his failed Loan Sense Company. Prosecutor, Deputy state Attorney General, Keith Lyon says it's a ways into the future.  "The case was set for trial on March 2 of 2010,  and we have an interim pre-trial date on 'August 7, 2009 and then we have a pre trial conference scheduled for February 5th, 2010 which is in preparation for the trial itself."

Lyon explains why a trial date was set for 8 months into the future.  "The defense attorney is handling a murder case in Placer County that is expected to take 3 months It's expected to start September 30th, so she is not available for October November or December. And a case like this, it takes time to prep. You really can't go back to back on."

Lyon says the victims in the case will be kept informed of what is happening in the case.
