Home | Local | Cedar Ridge Country Market Burns in Arson Fire

The Cedar Ridge Country Store Located on Highway 174 nearly burned to the ground Yesterday morning. Arson is suspected and a suspect has been taken into custody.  The business owner and his wife were  asleep in an attached residential area and awoke to the sound of glass breaking.  They went outside to investigate and saw their building on fire.  They also confronted a male subject on their property that was rummaging through their vehicle.  Firefighters arriving on scene  also contacted the same male subject.  He threatened one of the firefighters with a wrench then fled into a detached garage.  Due to the violent behavior of the man, firefighters called for emergency response from Law enforcement.  Grass Valley police officers were first to arrive and located  the subject, identified as 21 year old Alfredo Torres from Grass Valley.  Torres was combative and non-cooperative and while being transorted to the county jail, Torres Kicked out the rear window of a Sheriff's patrol car.  Cal-Fire investigators were requested to respond to determine the origin and cause of the fire.  Torres was booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility and charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance, threatening a firefighter, attempted vehicle theft, vandalismt and arson.  His bail is set at $51 thousand.
