The California State Senate yesterday unanimously approved a bill designed to improve patient safety in the state. Nevada County State Senator, Sam Aanestad, co-sponsored the legislation. He says it's designed to strengthen the Medical Peer Review process.
“This bill strengthens peer review finally by allowing earlier involvement of the Medical Board when incompetence or substance abuse or misconduct endangers patients. It protects the due process rights of professionals. It has received the support of the Medical Board of California, the California Medical Association and Kaiser Permanente.”
The bill, designated S-B 820, now goes to Governor Schwarzenegger for his signature.
