Home | Local | NID Board of Directors to Attend Water Marketing Workshop

The Nevada Irrigation District Board of Directors is in discussion over the possibility of marketing  water to other regions.  General Manager Ron Nelson  says NID has been involved in selling water for several decades.  He says they buy surplus water from PG&E in the lower elevations of the district's project and because they don't have a lot of use for it in the lower elevations so they sell anything they don't use  themselves to the South Sutter Irrigation District .  He says he's not certain there is enough water to get into the full marketing arena , but the board is in the process of being educated on the subject with the help of new board member Nick Wilcox who has some understanding of it and experience in it so he helped organize a workshop so everyone would have a broader understanding of what marketing water is all about.  Nelson says the workshop will give the board more information to understand regulations, protocol and processes involved in making money on any excess water they may have.
