Earlier this week we mentioned that th4e Franchise Tax Board has been sending letters to some 900-thousand delinquent taxpayers that owe a total of about 600-million dollars in taxes.  Tax Board spokesperson, Brenda Voet, says if those taxpayers paid their taxes, it would save money for the rest, "If everyone in California pays their taxes on time, it's estimated that those of us that are paying our taxes on time may have our taxes reduced by anywhere between 15 to 20%."

Voet says, even if you cannot afford to pay your tax bill, you should contact the Franchise Tax Board for help, "We want to let people know, who are experiencing any financial hardship, that if they can't pay what they owe, contact us. Get a hold of the Franchise Tax Board.  We have specialists available who can establish payment plans for them.  If they have a state lien and they're trying to sell their house, there may be some relief available to remove that stale lien to allow the house to be sold, and in some cases, we can even delay collection action."

More information on help with paying your taxes is available online at ftb.ca.gov.
